We don’t just randomly harvest our kelp seaweeds anywhere but we culture, cultivate and grow them at our own open marine farm. We pick the best seed every time we plant.
We are the ONLY seaweed fertilizer company that uses the raw material Laminaria Japonica seaweed kelp species which offers more nutritional content than other kelp species. We have full control of everything from selecting only the best seeds to the use of our high technology and proprietary enzymatic hydrolysis processing to ensure the quality and nutrition consistency of our kelp fertilizer products. Growing kelp in our open ocean water environment allows us to have sustainable marine farming operations. Our Laminaria Japonica kelp provides a lot and a different set of nutrients different from other seaweed fertilizers harvested in other areas.
Our parent company, Shidai Marine Biotechnology is one of the world’s biggest kelp marine cultivation farms with kelp seeds originating from Hokkaido, Japan in 1718 then cultured in Rongcheng Bay in China since the 1920s. Since then, during every harvest cycle, the newly planted seeds were picked from “the best of the best seeds” making each kelp harvest cycle a better breed than the previous one. These highly cultured kelp plants are then processed WITHOUT USING ANY HARSH CHEMICALS nor HIGH HEAT PROCESS in order to preserve the kelp plant nutrients and provide for the best plant nutrition. This is the very reason why we have kept our kelp fertilizer in the liquid format to keep all the kelp micro-nutrients intact compared to the powder version which has lost many of its micro nutrients. The quality of raw material and our high technology proprietary processing are the foundations of our seaweed fertilizer brand – LJ KELP.
Our fresh Laminaria Japonicakelp:
Is a major source ofminerals. amino acids, enzymes, trace elements, or micronutrients, including calcium, magnesium, Sulphur, manganese, copper, iron, and zinc, which are in short supply in the ground.
(Kelp’s vitamin B) provides plants with the energy needed to cope with the stress resulting from such fast development which can prove extremely useful during cloning for lowering the death rate of the most vulnerable nursery plants.
Containsa series of growth hormones such as auxins, gibberellins, and cytokinins which promote stem elongation and induce germination, mitotic cell division, and regulate tissue differentiation, causing a strong increase in leaf chlorophyll concentration and, in turn, fostering the development of foliar mass.
Helps retain water and moisture in the soil especially during the bad drought seasons.
Helps improve and loosen the impact of soil compaction.
Kelp is e-Coli contamination-free and antibiotic-free compared to other (animal manure) natural forms of fertilizers.
Our Liquid fertilizer can deliver micro-molecular nutrients to plants faster, reduce loss, and enhance fertilizer efficiency.
Laminaria Japonicakelp stimulates the emergence of new sprouts when applied as a foliar fertilizer after the start of the blooming stage. Through constant use, Laminaria Japonicakelp may provide natural antibiotic properties that help fight damaging viruses and bacteria protecting plants from infections and pests, and many more!
Some experts say kelp is the “The Secret Swiss Army Knife” of your plant nutrients. Our manufacturing and processing standards are administered under high ISO 9001 food-grade levels using advanced high tech bio-enzymatic hydrolysis processing with over 300 proprietary machines having patents both in the USA and Asia. You can be assured the fertilizer you put on your crops is food safe, of very high quality, with full kelp essence nutrition intact, and with no (zero) chemicals used in the processing.
Needless to say, the better quality organic fertilizer you use, the more your farm can produce better quality crops, and the better you can get prices and profits from it!
NOT ALL SEAWEED FERTILIZERS ARE MADE EQUAL. 99% of the seaweed fertilizers sold in the market today are made from just randomly harvested (not cultivated) Nodosum Ascophyllum or some other types of seaweeds. Because our competitor’s seaweeds are not cultured, cultivated, nor farmed, they do not provide consistent fertilizer quality. More to that, they use harsh chemicals to process their seaweed fertilizers which are not only bad for your crops, bad for the environment and marine life, and worst, bad for the health of the people that consume your farm crops. Please click the image below and watch how we make our fresh kelp liquid fertilizers from Laminaria Japonica cultured in our own marine farms and see our food grade manufacturing facility.

What is Laminaria japonica?
From the family Phaeophycaeae, Laminaria japonica is a cold water species of large brown algae. In East Asia, Laminaria japonica is a popular everyday food item. It has high nutritional and medicinal value. Research has shown that Laminaria japonica has numerous beneficial effects on the human body, including immune regulation, anti-tumor, and anti-oxidation effects. Laminaria japonica has a high adsorption capacity and can absorb nutrients and active ingredients in seawater faster and at a higher concentration compared to other species of algae. Therefore, we only use whole (not scraps) and fresh food-grade Laminaria japonica to make fertilizers for your farm crops so safety is assured. Laminaria japonica has a strong affinity with terrestrial plants, where nutrients can be easily absorbed and converted into growth energy. Natural alginic acid, kelp polysaccharides, kelp oligosaccharides, amino acids, mannitol, indole acetic acid, indole butyric acid, gibberellin, phenolic substances in Laminaria japonica are all necessary and safe food for soil and plant growth. They also provide powerful synergy for increasing yield, as well as improving quality, disease resistance, and stress resistance.
Origins of Laminaria Japonica Kelp Seaweed Species
Laminaria japonica has been cultivated in Japan since 1718. With seeds originating from Hokkaido, Japan, kelp seaweed has been farmed in China since the 1920s. Ever since then, our Laminaria Japonica has also been cultivated, bred, and farmed in Rongcheng Bay in China using only the best seeds to plant from each harvest thereby making every new planting the best of the best breed over one hundred years of continuous marine cultivation.
We continue this in our own marine farms so we have 100% control of the quality. Because of the ocean currents, the sea-water of Rongcheng Bay is rich in nutrients ideally needed for kelp growth. And over those one hundred years of cultivation, science has proven that kelp absorbs up to 400,000 times of its own inherent nutrients, and, attains its maximum levels of nutrient contents between March and August that’s why they are harvested during those periods. This ensures that the very high nutrition content of the SHIDAI MARINE liquid kelp fertilizer we process.
What is LJ KELP liquid fertilizer made of and why is it better than the other brands? How is LJ KELP different from the other seaweed-based fertilizers in the market?
The 7 quick answers would be:
Technology
With a proprietary system invented and patented by SHIDAI MARINE, the kelp seaweed undergoes a specially controlled enzymolysis process to release nutrients through bio-enzyme catalysis. The whole process occurs under low temperatures to preserve kelp's natural beneficial nutrients intact with its original potency. We have a US patent-protected bio-enzymatic hydrolysis technology process (US Patent #US10472296-B2) to extract and release the pure kelp seaweed intracellular nutrients and active ingredients WITHOUT using any chemicals.
Raw Material - Laminaria Japonica Kelp Seaweed Specie
Laminaria Japonica Species - the large amounts of enzymes in our fertilizer can promote microbial reproduction in the soil which improves soil structure and fertility. This species contains a full spectrum of mineral elements, rich natural plant hormones such as betaine and phenolic compounds, active ingredients, and organic nutrients such as mannitol, vitamins, proteins, and amino acids. It also contains dozens of inorganic nutrients such as iodine, iron, barium, and selenium, and cytokinins and auxins. Laminaria japonica Kelp has five natural plant hormones. These active ingredients include mannitol, algal polysaccharides and polyphenols, and the unique ingredient ~ Laminarin. All of these kelp nutrients are readily absorbed and utilized by the plants. Higher Potency - means more effective fertilizer. See attached brochure for more details of the natural plant hormones, active kelp ingredients, amino acids, mineral elements, amino acids, and vitamins our product provides.
We are the only fertilizer manufacturing company using the best quality Laminaria Japonica seaweed species compared to the other 99% of our competitors who use the common Ascophyllum Nosodum species. Moreover, there are too many companies offering this product that is why Ascho[phyllum Nosodum is getting too crowded, too competitive, making it harder to sell, and it longer to turn over your inventory. Our raw material is like the Cadillac for cars where we are the only premium ones who sell this is the market today.
Advantages of Liquid Format Kelp Seaweed Fertilizer
Most seaweed fertilizers in the market are powdered format or whose process of manufacturing requires high heat process cooking which kills most of the active nutrients in the seaweed. Our liquid format ensures intact of Laminaria japonica seaweed nutrients and trace elements, unlike the powder format where nutrients are lost or killed during the heat process or powder drying conversion.
- 100% retention of full nutrients compared to powder format where most nutrients are lost due to the high heat processing in converting to powder format.
- Ease of use and ease of blending with other all fertilizers in hydro farm systems.
- Uniformity of application
- Quick delivery of plant or soil nutrition without the need to wait to dissolve or decompose fertilizer before plant nutrients can be delivered
- No risk of E-coli bacteria contamination usually associated from solid animal manure fertilization
As you can see, the quality of our proprietary technology, unique kelp species raw material, and our food-grade manufacturing standards are the solid foundations of our product so you can be sure what you put in your crop is food safe.
More Cost-Efficient Farming Business in the long run
Shidai Marine Liquid Kelp Fertilizer can help plants and crops improve the yield and fruit quality along building strong root systems to promote better absorption and utilization of nutrients, helps holds more water from the soil which overall enhances stress resistance ability, such as combating drought, cold and continued use help build up disease immunity.
Safer for you and Farm Workers to Use
Because kelp seaweeds are natural products with harsh no chemicals, they are generally safer to handle and be used by farmworkers. Needless to say, protective gear is always and still recommended every time the fertilizer is handled and used even with natural products. When choosing between a natural fertilizer whose production process is food grade and other brands whose appearance is black or dark brown with a bad chemical order or foul repulsive smell, it is very easy to determine which you would want to be used on your food.
Overall Seaweed Raw Material Sourcing is Overall Better for Environment Sustainability
It’s a known fact that chemical fertilizers are not good for the environment and most seaweed fertilizers on the market today (whether powder or liquid format) use some form of harsh industrial chemicals or are processed by harsh industrial chemicals. With the abundant information we now have today, we know both are bad to be used as fertilizers and bad for the environment.
Not only is our Laminaria japonica raw material superior in quality. it is also the most sustainable. With our “Laminaria Japonica” kelp species, we cultivate and farm them in the open cold seas of Rongcheng Bay between the open sea-waters of China and Korea.
Laminaria japonica has a golden brown color due to its high lutein content. This species grows can grow at an incredible rate of about 2.25 inches a day, 5 feet and four inches a month, or up to 16 feet in three months. We use the most sustainable kelp species with the fastest growth rate and we harvest them without disturbing the marine ecosystem compared to the mindless harvesting of Ascophyllum Nodosum which can take 4-5 years to regrow. Overall, our product is more environmentally sustainable since we cultivate them and not just the mindless harvest them like some of our competitors do.
Ascophyllum Nodosum species seaweed (AKA Feamainn Bhuí, Rockweed, Norwegian Kelp, Knotted Kelp, Knotted Wrack or Egg Wrack) are mostly harvested from Atlantic Canada, Nordic seas, Greenland, Portugal, and Africa. With the very strict environmental laws in the US and particularly in California, harvesting seaweed on a huge commercial basis is prohibited and will most likely be very difficult to execute.
The competitors seaweed raw material species regrows anywhere between 4-5 years and the constant collection of this type of seaweed from anywhere around the globe will immensely affect the marine ecosystem with habitats over 100 marine species.
Thus, the competitor's raw materials are not really as sustainable compared with the seaweed species we culture, cultivate and grow in our natural seaweed fertilizer marine farms.Look at some of these seaweed fertilizer competitors who even admit on their own corporate videos of the just mindless collection (unlike cultivation like we do):

Ascophyllum Nodosum species must be cut carefully for the seaweed to regrow. If not done properly, it will no longer regrow forever causing harvest mortality and this will badly affect the sensitive marine life and ecosystem on over 100 habitats that live and thrive on this type of seaweed. Direct control over the seaweed raw materials in our own open-water coastal farming area
With Shidai Marine, we have direct control and manage our own marine farm (2,500 acres) where we cultivate and farm the highly sustainable Laminaria japonica kelp seaweed species.
Most of the other seaweed fertilizer companies use the controversial Ascophyllum Nodosum species that are being haphazardly harvested (NOT CULTIVATED) in the waters and shores causing a negative and bad impact on the marine ecosystem considering the regrowth of these species can take anywhere between 4-5 years.
